Pol Pot/Khmer Rouge and Detente

Pol Pot/Khmer Rouge: Pol Pot (1925-1998) and his communist Khmer Rouge movement led Cambodia from 1975 to 1979. During that time, about 1.5 million Cambodians out of a total population of 7 to 8 million died of starvation, execution, disease or overwork. \

Detente: Détente (a French word meaning release from tension) is the name given to a period of improved relations between the United States and the Soviet Union. It began in 1971 and took decisive form when President Richard M. Nixon visited the secretary-general of the Soviet Communist party, Leonid I. Brezhnev, in Moscow.
