Satallites/Space Race/Sputnik

Satellites: The term satellite nation was used to describe certain nations in the Cold War. These nations were aligned with and under influence/pressure of the Soviet Union. Some included Poland, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, and East Germany.

Space Race/Sputnik:

The Space Race was a competition between the USA and the USSR to explore space using artificial satellites. This can be considered an extension of the arms race because technology discovered in the space race could easily be incorporated in the arms race. Sputnik's was an artificial Soviet satellite, it was the first satellite placed in orbit.
